Arise! Atlas

Arise! Atlas websiteEver wanted a map book of all the cool things to check out in the Twin Cities? Well, Arise! is making one -- with your help. Check out atlas.arisebookstore.org and add stuff you think is worth checking out in our fair cities: free stuff, hidden stuff, collectives, queer-friendly, kid-friendly, vegan-friendly, or just plain weird stuff! Plot it on our new mapping website!!

Once we have enough data, we'll be making this into a hand-drawn, pocket-sized map book available this spring!Read more...

 

EXCO classes start this week!

Experimental College (EXCO) classes start this week and Arise! is hosting one of them! The class at Arise! is entitled  "Ink & Action: Rhetoric for  Activism" and it's about motivating people to take action on the issues you care about. This class is on Tuesdays from 6:30-8.

You can sign up for this and other fascinating classes at www.excotc.org. EXCO is a group of people connecting with other people to share knowledge and skills. Anyone can teach a class, anyone can take a class--and everything is free!

Low-cost Health Screenings and Free Movie

Sunday, February 10th
Events start at 4 p.m.

United Health Care Action Network of Minnesota (UHCAN-MN) and Arise! are co-hosting low-cost health screenings and a showing of Michael Moore's * Sicko*, a documentary on the state of America's health care system. The movie is free to all, but donations are appreciated.

Health screenings start at 4 p.m. Movie at 5 p.m. Discussion about the movie, the health care situation, and options for staying healthy at 7 p.m.

Pre-registration for the health screenings is encouraged. To pre-register, call 612.383.0973, email joel at uhcan-mn.org, or sign up on the sheet at the front desk at Arise! 1) Total cholesterol + glucose + blood pressure & pulse tests. This option does NOT require fasting and involves a simple finger stick, results using the Cholestech instrument in 5 minutes. The Cholestech measuring instrument used is accurate and used by many medical clinics and hospitals.

Know Your Rights in Police Encounters

Saturday, January 19th, 5-7 p.m.

Arise! and Communities United Against Police Brutality (CUAPB) are co-hosting a FREE community training to help people learn to protect themselves when stopped by the police. So come out and bring a friend and learn how to protect your rights!

The training is free to all, but donations are appreciated.
